The 162 year unfolding history of Bible Baptist Church in Shickshinny, PA is a testimony to the faithfulness of Christ's promise to his disciples which is recorded in Matthew 16:7 and 13.  "It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.  When he, the Spirit of truth is come, He will guide you into all truth."  That was literally the experience of a young man, who in 1925 began his ministry as the pastor of the seventy-three year old Methodist Protestant Church in Shickshinny.  Rev. Archie Birdsall had no formal training but "was literally taught by the Holy Spirit in the great doctrines of the Word of God.  As he studied the Word of God under the direction of the Holy Spirit of God, he realized that the church held some unbiblical doctrines and practices."  His desire to rebuild the church on the truths of God's Word was a gradual process over a long period of years.  In 1938 Pastor Archie Birdsall led the church to become an independent church with the name of Shickshinny Protestant Church.  The next step in transition from the church's 1852 beginning and designation as a Methodist Protestant Church took place when the first "home grown" missionary was commissioned by the church to go to Africa under Baptist Mid-Missions.  Following the leading of the Holy Spirit, the congregation of Shickshinny Protestant Church voted to add to their name the phrase, "An Independent Baptist Testimony."

The final step in achieving Pastor Archie Birdsall's goal of "bringing the church to a fundamental, separatist, Baptist position" was not realized until eleven years after his home-going to be with the Lord.  Under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Warren Birdsall, and the direction of the Holy Spirit of God, on November 6, 1968 the congregation of the Shickshinny Protestant Church with an Independent Baptist Testimony voted unanimously to adopt a new constitution, covenant, and articles of faith; and the name was changed to Bible Baptist Church.  Pastor Archie Birdsall and his eldest son, Pastor Warren Birdsall faithfully served the Lord as pastor of the little white church on the hill above the community of Shickshinny for a combined total of seventy years.  Under their leadership and faithful proclamation of the Word of God, innumerable souls came to know and love the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior, and to serve Him in the home church as they went out into other areas as pastors, teachers, and as missionaries in Africa and Asia.  A fifth missionary is even now preparing to go out for a world-wide ministry with Bibles International under the auspices of Baptist Mid- Missions.  After Pastor Warren Birdsall's home-going in 1995, Pastor Daniel Potter served as pastor from 1996 to 2010.  The ministry of Bible Baptist Church continues for the glory of the Lord under the spiritual leadership of pastor Donald Thomas Jr.
